Cults of Head

A work-in-progress game to learn about Iron Age and Roman Britain

Hunting for Heads is an educational game for KS2 children to learn about the Iron Age and Roman Britain.

The game is based on the real archaeological site, Dean Hall Temple. Find out more here. This game is a prototype and was developed for a module on my MSc Digital Heritage.

The premise of the game is that you, the player, are new to this area of Roman Britain and Sabrina, the local goddess,  has had a bit of a tantrum and washed away all the head offerings by flooding the spring. The main temple priestess asks for your help to collect the heads, as it will be a great way for you to get to know the local area. There are 22 heads to collect, which all get added back to the wall of the temple. You can then click the heads and get a short description about them. There are 4 different locations: the temple interior, immediately outside the temple, a forest area to the North where the local druid resides and a riverside farmstead to the south-east. There are 13 different NPCs that players can talk to across the 4 locations, and each of these conversations is tied to different aspects of the National Curriculum for Roman Britain.
