The potential prototype of Stonehenge alignment has been discovered. Just 5km from the stones, firmly in the Stonehenge landscape, two postholes that algin with the solstices have been uncovered. This relatively simple construction is 5,000 years old, 500 years before the stones at Stonehenge, and represents the earliest solstice alignment in the Stonehenge landscape. The evidence demonstrates that ancient people have been celebrating the solstices for hundreds of years and these structures allowed them to do so before the complex, permanent monuments could have been discovered. A perfect discovery to be announced just days before the summer solstice.
